The roads in Male’ City have been subject to neglect and criticism for over decades. With little maintenance work done on the roads, the poor conditions have seen countless floods and in a few cases, sink holes around the capital city. What seemed like a never-ending nightmare to the citizens who brave the bumpy roads on a daily basis finally came to pass when the Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure unveiled their plan to upgrade the roads in Male’ City.

Under the ministry’s plan, a total of eleven roads are to be upgraded in the city by the end of 2018. Upgrading works are to be carried out in different segments, spread out for the next three years. The first segment of upgrading Majeedhee Magu from Boduthakurufaanu Magu till Izzudheen Magu is a much needed change that the Male’ City residents have longed for quite sometime now.

The upgrading works will see the roads completely changed, as they are to provide easier access to people with disabilities on the sidewalks, improving the water drainage systems as well as providing easier access to the cable junctions.

While the upgrading works are to be carried out with road segments being closed, information about the closure would be made public prior to the commencement of the work.
