From the states to even countries like Afghanistan, the “Idol” franchise has been the heartthrob of fans of all ages. Whether they were eight year old children, or thirty five year old mothers, the Idol franchise has created spectacular singers around the globe. After years of enjoying global success, Idol is finally here in the Maldives, and the fever seems to be catching on.
With the auditions kicking off during the second week of October, everyone is on edge. Citizens of all the islands are in full gear, promoting the show in any way possible. One of the most notable methods include the “Maldivian Idol” twibbon which is being used by a lot of people on Facebook, as well as the promotional video clips shot in the various islands where the auditions are to be held. The promotional clips feature various local talents showcasing their skills, and asking all those interested to go out and audition for the first international TV franchise in the Maldives.
Hundreds of children and adults also showed up at the “Selfie with Maldivian Idol Logo” event held at the artificial beach the Maldivian Idol team, to take a selfies with the Idol logo plaque. The crowd – dressed to the nines – that gathered to the area once again showed the support and the excitement that the general public have towards the show.
But what seems to be the most colossal news surrounding Maldivian Idol definitely has to be the one regarding the title sponsor. Maldives’ leading telecommunications company – Dhiraagu signed the deal with Public Service Media as the title sponsor of the show. Moreover, the deal was signed on the 27th anniversary of Dhiraagu – and the double celebrations called in for a festive event at the TVM studios, which saw the staff of PSM and senior management of Dhiraagu indulge in some sugar topped delicacies. While Dhiraagu has signed as the title sponsor of Maldivian Idol, “Lotus Fihaara” had also closed the deal as the main sponsor of the franchise.
While the prize of the show still remains under the wraps, the female presenter of the show was revealed just last week. Aminath Maureen was named as the face, who had been selected by Fremantle Media among the shortlisted candidates for its franchise show. The male host will soon be announced as well, completing the face of Maldivian Idol on TV.
With the Idol fever raging in the Maldives, the expectations towards the show are also growing. And it would certainly be worth the wait, to see how it all turns out in the end. And all we can do for now is, show our support and love through the various platforms of social media.
