With beaches that boast seclusion and exclusivity, and the ever-blue seas that define the clarity of crystals, Maldives has always been one of the prime destinations for luxury brands to open up a new island getaway. Over the decades, brands have found their way to the Maldives and established a foothold in the pearl of the Indian Ocean; but no one seemed to take a stride away from the thatched-roof villas and typical designs that has ruled the Maldivian hospitality industry. However, the latest project by LUX* Resorts aims to replace the mould by swapping traditional thatched villas with over-sized, penthouse residences.
The LUX* North Male’ Atoll is slated for a 2017 launch, as the brand aims to transform the six hectare picnic island of Olhahali into the Maldives’ most innovative resort. Intricately styled by a Singapore design group, Miaja, the resort blends super-yacht panache with a vibrant South Beach pulse; a visual feast of nautical forms and tones. Each of the 60 double storey residences sits either on the beach or over water, whose guests will benefit from a minimum living area of 255m2.
LUX* North Male’ Atoll is also introducing the novel concept of reef terraces – for the first time in the Maldives, each residence is crowned with a fully-featured 120m2 reef terrace; a glorious private deck, elevated five meters above the giant house lagoon – from which guests will be able to marvel at a unique perspective on the planet’s flattest country.
For those who love to indulge in the high life, they will find the sky lounge with the Big Green Egg BBQs, a rooftop bar, cinema and SONOS, a yoga plinth and starlight Jacuzzi and outdoor games rather intriguing.
The upcoming innovative take on resorts in the Maldives also offers two restaurants, Beach Rouge and a Café LUX*, a bar, wine cave, LUX* Me Spa and kids club in addition to a splendid time on the island.
The island resort is just 45 minutes by speedboat from Ibrahim Nasir International Airport and will be the second resort by Mauritian hotelier LUX* in the Maldives. There is no doubt that the innovative concept of this resort will bring about a change to the scene that we see right now in the hospitality industry. It’s safe to claim that the concept of this resort is by far among the most ambitious and innovative concepts that the Maldives would witness in the hospitality industry.
